On the Feast of St. Lucy (held on the 13th of December for those whose calendars are missing the more niche festive holidays), Lutzelfrau appears in our realm. This wintry witch takes part in the celebration by giving fruit and nuts to good children. While this might sound very benevolent and rather tame compared to some of the other holiday figures in your Grimoire, rest assured, things are about to take a darker turn.
Lutzelfrau is a witch with two very distinct sides. While she may seem kindly with her gifts, her ominous side, Dark Lutz, is an entirely different story. Dark Lutz’s arrival on St. Lucy’s Day is heralded by fear and dread. If a child has not been good, Lutz will unleash her fury, disemboweling the child or dragging them off to be drowned. Dark Lutz is more commonly seen in Croatia and Slovenia, so if you are located in either of these countries, we strongly recommend reconsidering your behavior in the lead up to St. Lucy’s Day or all year round, for that matter.
