If you’re a woodsman working in the forests of Pennsylvania, you better be sure to look up regularly, else the Ball-tailed Cat might strike you down. This fearsome critter of American legends is an alarming sight, should you ever spot one in the wild.
A large wild cat, its most noticeable feature is not its fangs or claws but the round boney mass on the end of its tail. With this weapon, it leaps down on workmen in the forest and beats them to death with it. One can only assume it then eats the remaining flesh. We have not heard anyone report otherwise and we certainly don't know if it's just doing this for pure thrills.
The creature has strong claws but these are predominantly used for scaling and staying put in trees. It has all the might it needs in its ball-tail. However, it also uses its tail for communication purposes with the male hitting the tail off of hollow logs to attract a mate. We think it's best to avoid the woods altogether during mating season so if you hear the percussion of hollow logs, turn heel and leave.
