The Bigfoot of the Himalayas, the Yeti is one of the most famous creatures to ever grace the Grimoire. The most commonly reported Yeti genus is the Chuti, standing around 8 feet tall. With a robust build and covered in grayish-white fur, it roams the dense forests and their peripheries throughout the mid-Himalayas. Unlike its larger cousin, the Nyalmo (another breed of Yeti), the Chuti is notably less aggressive and does everything it can to avoid human contact. However, it has occasionally been observed displaying territorial behavior when provoked.

Locals often regard the Chuti as a guardian of the mountains, attributing unexplained forest disturbances and strange sounds to its movements. Its elusive nature has long fascinated cryptozoologists and adventurers alike, including famed explorers Eric Shipton and Edmund Hillary, both of whom reported finding oversized footprints in the Himalayan snow.

In 1958, Tom Slick,  a US oil baron and fellow cryptid enthusiast,  funded a major Yeti expedition. During this effort, explorer Peter Byrne famously acquired a finger from a mummified Yeti hand at a Buddhist monastery in Pangboche, Nepal. The finger was smuggled out of the country and later examined by scientists, adding fuel to the mystery.

Unfortunately, the Chuti’s elusive nature, along with opportunists keen to exploit true believers, makes it difficult to draw firm conclusions about how to interact with the creature. But if you ever find yourself in close proximity to one, we suggest you follow the standard advice:

“If it roars or snaps — don’t chat, just collapse.”
