While most famous for jazz, Bourbon Street, and fantastic food, the French Quarter in New Orleans is also notorious for its rich history of spirits, dark forces, and vampirism. And while not necessarily dark, it is also a key location for Voodoo practitioners, with Marie Laveau’s burial site in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 serving as a cultural landmark for many.

The French Quarter’s hauntings are abundant, and it is cited as one of the most haunted places in all of America. Iconic haunted spots include the Ursuline Convent, where the Casket Girls once lived; the grim LaLaurie Mansion, where all manner of horrors took place; and the Andrew Jackson Hotel, where some guests simply never checked out.

In popular culture, the French Quarter has become famous for its vampires. While much of that can be attributed to fiction, there is rarely smoke without fire. On that note, we recommend being wary of attractive young folks with a glint in their eye and exceptionally sharp teeth.
