Conflicting tales exist of La Bolefuego but one thing is never in doubt - she is a fiery spirit with a hunger for vengeance. Often appearing to eye witnesses as a burning woman or a tearful spirit, clutching a lantern, her tale is one of sadness, pain and flames.
While we have no clear reports of her origin story, locals in Columbia and Venezuela, where she is best known, claim that she was a woman who was scorned by her unfaithful drunken husband and may have killed him in a rage. In the aftermath, her home was burned to the ground, killing her and her two children.
Now, she is lost in a fit of despair, roaming the land with a burning lantern as her guide. Akin to the will o’ the wisp of European folklore, she is sometimes only seen as a flickering light, rather than a full bodied apparition. However, there have also been reports of her flicking into existence as a woman on fire, reaching out her arms as they dance with flame. She reportedly targets men like her long-dead husband but there have also been sightings from innocent bystanders too. If she does appear to you, our field agents have reported that you should never pray in her presence. It makes no difference to her and, in fact, she’ll possibly have burned you alive before you get through even the first line of the Lord’s Prayer.
