Lurking in the fountains, sewers, and thermal springs of Aachen in Germany, the Bahkauv is a strange creature that preys exclusively on drunkards. It is part calf, part monster, with a long tail and fierce fangs. The creature was commonly sighted in the 1800s, and some claim that a local hero managed to slay it at the turn of the 20th century. A statue was built to celebrate this event, but as we have never seen any documented evidence beyond the statue, this remains unconfirmed. The original statue was destroyed during World War II but was replaced in the 1960s and still stands today.

The Bahkauv was known to leap onto the backs of drunkards, much like the Aufhocker. However, the key difference is that not only would the Bahkauv force its victim to carry it until weakened, but it would then attack and rob them. Reports do not describe the Bahkauv outright killing its targets, but it certainly caused harm and distress.

Our greatest advice when trying to avoid a Bahkauv attack is a simple one - maybe cut the pints off after just a couple. Know your limits. Or, even better, ask for water or fruit juice instead.
